One of three orchestras in the School of Music, the UI Symphony Orchestra has a long and distinguished history of excellence in the performance of repertoire from the standard symphonic literature through the avant garde. Under the direction of Donald Schleicher, the UI Symphony Orchestra performs nine concerts each year. The ensemble also splits into two smaller orchestras twice each year and performs both with various choral ensembles and the School of Music Opera Program. The Orchestra consists of primarily undergraduate and graduate music majors and rehearses three times each week for a total of six hours.
